hOW IT ALL BEGAN…

While I’ve always had some type on involvement with music (school and church choir, solo projects, singing groups, song writer, and national reality television competitions, in 2014, after "American Idol’, making it to “Hollywood Week,” I took a step back completely to re-group as life progressed and took different turns. I started to focus on other aspects, however, there was still a “void” so-to-speak.

During the ‘Craze’ that is CoronaVirus, while working from home, I began to feel that void even more so than before. While sitting at home one day, I realized I had all of these talents and ideas that were being wasted. I sat on the sofa all day jotting down every thought and idea I had. There had to have been about five ideas that have/had huge potential and I needed to pick one to start with. Being that music has always been my first love, I naturally gravitated to the idea having to do with making music. Jingle Writing… and it felt RIGHT! I began my work and research on starting such a company and building a brand. While I knew this would be a LOT of work/research/time, etc., I was ready for the task and more than capable. So, the journey began.

… so the Jingle Lingo journey began!

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Cortni’ was born musically inclined… literally, in her blood. Her musical background and influence stem from her father’s (Richard E. Davis) music ability and knowledge. Receiving vocal lessons from her father, in her youth and throughout her school years, she was always tasked with singing at school graduations, plays, banquets, etc., and was a member of several girl groups.

In her early teen years, although music was still her first love, she also found a love for poetry and began writing. One of her poems was published in an edition of Poetry.com. This is where her passion for writing began and she realized she had quite a “knack” for it.

In her young adult years, as her passion grew stronger, she began exploring more musical options prompting her to network and connect with producers and record her own music. In her connecting with various producers, she was able to hone different sounds/styles. It was at this point, she took her love of writing and began experimenting with songwriting. She started writing for her own project(s), her group(s), other singers in need of lyrics and producers seeking lyrics for artists. In 2006, she was even awarded as a “Finalist” in the USA SongWriting Competition for an original work.

In 2004, Cortni’ “Made it to Hollywood” for Season 3 of American Idol and although eliminated during the “Hollywood Round,” she placed in the top 80 contestants. Cortni’ did not stop there! She then pursued TLC’s ‘R U the Girl’ and made it for call backs two days in a row and did not stop there, when she did not make the final cut. She then went to San Francisco to audition for Diddy’s “Making the Band,” in which she also received call backs two days in a row.

Cortni’s style and sound is that of its own and she loves complicating beautiful melodies and harmonies driven by deep bass lines and 808’s with touches of symphony here and there. Even when she took a step back from music, it still followed her almost to a point of ‘haunting her.’ One day, she realized it's the art of expression/writing and the feelings of nostalgia you gain from music that really have her art; the artistry of it all... not the fame as she never really loved the stage. While she loves to sing and sings all day long, every day, she no longer pursues a career as an artist. She will, however, always and forever be… a Writer. Music is IN her and she can’t deny it.

Music is a platform for self-expression and empowerment. Cortni’ believes that we sing what we cannot speak.
